New AI Chat Whatsapp

WhatsApp Rolls Out AI-Powered Message Summaries

WhatsApp is rolling out a brand-new feature that uses artificial intelligence to summarize unread personal messages—a game-changer for users who often fall behind on chats.

With just one tap on the unread messages icon, users can now see a concise, bullet-point summary generated by Meta AI, helping them catch up without scrolling through entire conversations.

Currently available in the U.S., the feature is expected to expand to more countries and languages later in 2025.

How AI Message Summaries Work

WhatsApp’s new feature is powered by Meta’s Private Processing Technology, which allows users to receive intelligent summaries without compromising their privacy.

Here’s what you need to know: The feature is optional and is off by default Users can choose to enable it selectively for specific chats WhatsApp and Meta do not see your messages or the summaries Summaries appear when you tap the unread message indicator in a chat

According to Meta, “Message Summaries help you get an idea of what’s happening before reading the full chat.”

What Is Private Processing Technology?

Meta’s Private Processing is a confidential AI infrastructure designed to analyze user data in a secure, isolated environment. It enables features like: Summarizing chat threads Providing writing suggestions Answering questions within WhatsApp Generating real-time AI images

Meta says the AI only sees what you allow it to process, and the summaries are kept private even from Meta itself.

Ads Are Coming to WhatsApp, Too

Alongside this AI rollout, WhatsApp is also starting to introduce ads inside the app, specifically in the Updates tab. Much like how Instagram shows ads between Stories, WhatsApp users will now see ads based on: Location (country/city) Language Channels they follow

In addition to these targeted ads, WhatsApp will generate revenue through: Channel subscriptions Paid Channel promotions These payments will be processed through the app stores.

Final Thoughts

With the integration of AI message summaries and a growing ad model, WhatsApp is evolving beyond just a chat app. While these features aim to make life easier for users, they also raise important questions about data use, user choice, and the future of privacy in messaging.
