Mercedes-AMG has raised the bar for electric performance with the CONCEPT AMG GT XX, an all-electric prototype that demolished 25 endurance records at Italy’s famed Nardò test track. Among its historic feats, the GT XX covered 5,479 kilometers (3,405 miles) in just 24 hours—surpassing the previous benchmark by more than 1,500 kilometers.
Around the World in Eight Days
After setting track records, AMG engineers pushed the concept car into an even more daring challenge: to cover the Earth’s equatorial distance of 40,075 km (24,901 miles). The GT XX completed the feat in 7 days, 13 hours, 24 minutes, and 7 seconds, averaging over 3,293 miles per day at a sustained cruising speed of 186 mph (300 km/h).Next-Generation AMG Technology
The achievement was made possible by AMG’s upcoming AMG.EA architecture, which combines three axial-flux motors with a directly cooled high-performance battery. Charging capabilities were equally groundbreaking, with the system replenishing 248 miles of range in just five minutes at up to 850 kW—well beyond what current EV infrastructure supports.Voices From the Team
“Our drive system must be convincing across the board,” said Michael Schiebe, Chairman of Mercedes-AMG. “The production models will deliver a genuine AMG—no ifs; no buts.”Formula 1 driver George Russell, who joined the test team, highlighted the motors’ responsiveness: “The axial flux motors respond as immediately and precisely as a Formula 1 drivetrain, but with an endurance I’ve only ever experienced with combustion engines.”
